Widya Karya Students Achievements

Civil Engineering students left their mark in an East Java regional competition, on April 8, 2017. Silvianus Regiantoro, Filipus Hendra Subagia, and Agatha Putri Rosalia won 1st Place in Design Competition for 2-Storied Homes with Green Construction Concept, held by the Communication Forum for Indonesia’s Civil Engineering University Students (FKMTSI). The completion was held at Widya Gama University of Malang to celebrate the anniversary of FKMTSI.

These three Civil Engineering students proposed a Green Housing (Griya Asri) concept. Their planned house was deliberately designed to optimize waste water treatment to yield reusable chemical-free water. The waste water in question would not be immediately dumped into the city drainage but was treated first through a building based on Wet Land Construction to be reused for the needs of the household, for example to water plants, to flush toilets, as a fish pond, etc.

“Our first target was simply to get into the Big 3,” said Regiantoro as the team leader.

But it seemed that the judges saw more potential in them than just the Big 3. For these students this was a novel and very memorable experience, especially due to the many inputs and new knowledge they gained.

“For the time being, we’re planning to participate in the KJI (Indonesian Bridge Competition),” Regi added.

These Civil Engineering students were greatly motivated to honor the name of Widya Karya Catholic University through their achievements. They send a message to all other students at Widya Karya to refrain from any feelings of inferiority and unworthiness. Students of Widya Karya should demonstrate that they are capable to excel in many areas, that they have the same opportunities. Finally, they urge their fellow students to stand out more outside the campus and out of Widya Karya.
