The Students Union of the Faculty of Law of Widya Karya Catholic University had the opportunity to attend a national seminar and congress held by the Association of Indonesia’s Students of Law (ISMAHI). The event was held on 6-8 November, 2017, at Pancasila University’s Faculty of Law in Depok.
The event was divided into two sections: the National Seminar and ISMAHI Congress. The National Seminar was opened by Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat, S.H., M.S. as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. In his opening speech, Mr. Hidayat stated that Indonesian laws had to serve the nation and the state. He further explained that law had a vertical responsibility in creation and enforcement. Therefore, law enforcement in Indonesia was the life foundation for all Indonesian people, based on Pancasila. After the speech, the national seminar was divided into four sessions with four professional speakers. The first session was headed by Prof. Dr. Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, S. H. (Chair of the Judicial Commission of the Republic of Indonesia), with the theme of Law Enforcement in the Reform Era. The second session was headed by the Senior Commissioner of the Police, Dr. (C) Andry Wibowo, S.IK, M.H., M.Si., with the theme of Law Reform (Critical Thinking in an Integralistic Country). The third session was headed by Dr. Armansyah Nasution, S.H., M.H., with the theme the Grand Design of the Reform of Indonesian Criminal Law. The last session was headed by Prof. Dr. Andi Hamzah, S.H., discussing Responses to the Draft of Criminal Law.
The second day of the event, on November 7, 2017, was the start of the climax of the event, the ISMAHI Congress. On this second day two plenary sessions were held; the first plenary session discussed the congress agenda and rules, as well as the election of the session presidium. Sally Octavia, the Chair of the Students Union of UKWK’s Faculty of Law, was elected as Presidium III of the plenary, acting as both the secretary and minute-taker of the sessions. The next session discussed the ISMAHI Central Board’s Accountability Reports and Commissions Sessions. At this session, three commissions were formed to discuss three special themes: Commission A to discuss the organization’s Articles of Association; Commission B to discuss the organization’s Outline of Missions; and Commission C to discuss external and internal activities. The results of the commissions’ discussions would be used as a working recommendation for ISMAHI. The second-day plenary session was ended at 1 A.M. West Indonesia Time.
On the third day, on November 8, 2017, the event was begun at 11 A.M. with the agenda of plenary sessions III and IV. The agenda of plenary session III was to discuss and determine the results of plenary session II. Plenary session III used dialogue to agree upon the results, in which voting was utilized as a last resort if there was a deadlock in the dialogue. After the results had been agreed, plenary session IV was held. The agenda of plenary session IV consisted of four agendas: (1) discussion and establishment of electoral procedures of ISMAHI national council and central board for the period of 2017-2019; (2) election of ISMAHI national council for the period of 2017-2019; (3) election of ISMAHI central board for the period of 2017-2019; and (4) election and appointment of ISMAHI leadership for the period of 2017-2019. At this session, 7 candidates to ISMAHI national council for the period of 2017-2019 were submitted, and at the end Yoga Yusdiadi from West Java was elected.
The ISMAHI Congress was a national congressional invitation extended to the Students Union of the Faculty of Law of UKWK. By participating in the National Congress, the Students Union expected to create wider networks within the national scope for the students’ self-development and Union development. The results of the Congress were expected to boost cooperation between Students Unions at the local, regional, and national levels to develop the science of law. All of this is in accordance with the motto of the Students Union of UKWK’s Faculty of Law: “Yudha Pratidina”. Salam Scientia Ed Laborem.
